Oxford Geology Group aims to share knowledge of geodiversity with the community
Oxford Geology Group is passionate about making the geosciences more accessible to everyone around the county. Our aim to make more people aware of our local Earth heritage and to help people understand the global processes that have shaped and continue to form our amazing planet.
We have a five point strategy to help us achieve our aim:
Open Workshops and Seminars
All of our training workshops and seminars, delivered in partnership with the Oxford University Museum of Natural History (OUMNH), are open to members of the public. You don't have to be an OGG member to participate. 'GeoINTRO' workshops are for absolute beginners and we assume no previous knowledge of the geosciences. 'GeoPLUS' are seminars for people who already know something of the geosciences.
Lecture Service
OGG provides an external lecture service. Community groups and other organisations can book a lecture and one of our experienced team will deliver the lecture at venues around the county. So far in 2015 OGG has delivered lectures in Milton under Wychwood, Bloxham, Shipton under Wychwood, Wendlebury, Abingdon, Cholsey, Greys, Blewbury, Barford St John, Faringdon, Dunsden, Cassington, Stanford in the Vale, Stonesfield, Wantage, Deddington, Goring, Letcombe Regis, Long Hanborough, Harwell, Garsington, Bicester, Banbury, Didcot, Oxford, Marston, Charlbury, Stanton Harcourt, Filkins and Begbroke.
The lectures we currently offer are:
-
The geology of Oxfordshire
-
The dinosaurs of Oxfordshire

-

We provide a programme of georambles throughout the year and we lead bespoke walks by prior arrangement for local communities and organisations.
Services to Schools
Schools and colleges can also call on OGG for help with curriculum enrichment sessions. Drop us an email and we'll see what we can do.
"It was so fantastic to welcome Christine and Paul to Hazel Class. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to hold and study various rocks and fossils in a really fun, interactive environment. The session was perfectly pitched to not only support and enrich the pupils' understanding of geology and local geography but also was really beneficial in developing their scientific enquiry skills of asking questions and making predictions. We all had a brilliant time and would definitely recommend a visit from Oxford Geology Group to any school"
